Two resident letters and a Novi planning notice walk into a transit meeting. The real action is three resolutions that could reshape how people actually get to bus stops.
🔦 The 3 items worth your attention
The committee is being asked to act on 2026 bus stop improvements across the county under what’s called the Access to Transit Bus Stop Projects resolution. These are physical changes, shelters, curb cuts, signage, that kind of thing, aimed at making stops usable for people who currently can’t get to or onto a bus easily. The resolution goes to the full Economic Development & Infrastructure committee afterward. (8-a)
Next year’s version is also on the table already. The 2027 Access to Transit Program resolution would set the scope and funding framework for a whole new round of accessibility investments before the current year’s projects are even finished. Getting the 2027 plan moving now means the county can compete for grants and lock in contractor timelines. (8-b)
The third item is a budget amendment to the county’s agreement with SMART, the regional bus authority. Amendment 2026-1 would put more county dollars into SMART to expand service levels for Oakland County riders. No dollar amount is listed in the agenda materials, so the size of the increase will be one to watch when staff presents. (8-c)
🗺️ Roads & property
- Novi has formally notified the county it intends to amend its Master Plan, which kicks off a public review period. Transit and land use are tightly linked, so shifts in how Novi plans its land can matter for where routes go. (7-c)
📌 Also notable
- The committee gets a full implementation update on the Oakland County Community Transit Plan, good moment to hear how the broader strategy is tracking. (7-d)
- SMART’s Q1 2026 performance report (January through March) is on for receipt. Ridership numbers, on-time rates, that sort of thing. (7-e)
- Two resident letters to the Board of Commissioners, dated July 22 and July 26, are being formally received. Content isn’t summarized in the agenda. (7-a, 7-b)
