City Commission Business Meeting · 2026-08-10

What happened at Kalamazoo’s Aug. 10 business meeting

Monday’s business meeting closed out two loose ends: one ends a three-week wait on a property sale, the other sends a Charter question straight to Kalamazoo voters this fall.

✅ What we can confirm

Commissioners approved the Buy/Sell Agreement with Parktowne, LLC for the city-owned parcel at 1517 South Park Street, $605,000 (H-1). It’s the final vote on a purchase first read at the July 20 meeting, and the roll call on this one captured five of the seven commissioners. The city’s stated reason for buying the parcel, along with any appraisal and intended use, hasn’t been confirmed yet; that’s a separate follow-up we still owe you.

Commissioners also approved the resolution setting November 3, 2026 as the election date and setting the ballot language for a proposed City Charter amendment that would create a Citizens’ Healthcare Action Committee and require a healthcare action plan (H-2). The roll call captured the same five commissioners as H-1. This sets the ballot question only, it doesn’t adopt anything on its own. Kalamazoo voters will decide the actual Charter amendment on Nov. 3.

❓ No clear outcome

No Minutes file is posted for this meeting yet. The two items above are confirmed through the meeting’s own transcript, and the roll call we could source on each one captured five of the seven commissioners, not a full seven-member vote. The rest of Monday’s agenda doesn’t have a confirmable outcome on the record yet, so we’re not characterizing it here. We’ll follow up if anything changes once minutes are posted.
