Committee on Ways and Means · September 3, 2026

Thursday’s meeting is short, four substantive items, two of them grants with no dollar amounts attached yet.

🔦 The 3 items worth your attention

The FY2027/28 budget priorities discussion (5-D) is the biggest thing on this agenda even though it costs nothing tonight. This is the conversation that determines what the city asks for two budget cycles out, shaping spending across every department before a single number gets locked in. It’s a preview, not a vote, but the direction set here tends to stick.

A community shared agriculture grant from CEDAM is up for acceptance (5-B). The city would receive funding to support innovation and sustainability in its CSA program. No dollar amount is listed in the agenda materials, so there’s no figure to report, but it’s a meaningful program for residents who participate in community food access.

Old Town gets some attention too. The city is looking to accept a Certified Local Government Grant from the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office, partnered with the Old Town Commercial Association (5-C). State historic preservation money flowing into a commercial district can go a few directions, building surveys, planning work, facade studies, though the agenda doesn’t specify the scope yet.

🏗️ Roads & property

Nothing in this category on tonight’s agenda.
