Committee on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, September 1, 2026

Tuesday’s EDI committee meeting has no contracts, no dollar figures, and no votes on anything permanent. It’s a conversation agenda, five discussion items, one of which could end with a public hearing date on the books.

🔦 The 3 items worth your attention

Lansing might be about to regulate cryptocurrency ATMs. Item 5-E would create a brand-new chapter in city code, Chapter 873, covering licensing and operating requirements for virtual currency machines. This isn’t a final vote; the committee is setting a public hearing, which means residents get a formal chance to weigh in before anything moves forward.

The FY2027 and FY2028 budget conversation (5-F) is worth watching even though nothing gets locked in Tuesday. EDI committees can shape what gets funded before the full budget process crystallizes, so showing up early, or at least paying attention, matters more than it might look.

Senior services gets a dedicated discussion slot (5-B). The committee will take stock of what the city currently offers older residents and what might be missing. No proposal on the table yet, just the kind of scoping conversation that tends to precede one.

💰 Where the money’s going

Nothing this meeting. No contracts, no grants, no appropriations on the agenda.

📌 Also notable

Handicap parking enforcement is on the table at 5-C. The committee will look at both availability and how violations are actually handled, outcomes here could shift how the city enforces accessibility rules on the ground.

Public comment is item 4, open to any agenda item, three minutes per speaker.

Want to speak? The meeting is September 1, 2026, at 124 W. Michigan Avenue, 10th Floor, Lansing. Public comment opens at item 4; show up ready to speak within three minutes.
