Committee on City Operations, August 27, 2026

The Country Club of Lansing wants an easement over city land. That’s the most consequential thing on Thursday’s agenda, which is otherwise a short one.

🔦 The 3 items worth your attention

This committee only has two substantive items this week, so the spotlight goes to both, plus the budget conversation that will quietly matter more than either of them.

Drain and culvert easements for the Country Club of Lansing (5-B). The city is considering granting permanent easement rights over public land at 2100-2200 Moores River Drive, letting a private club run drainage and culvert infrastructure across it. No dollar figure is attached to the resolution, but once an easement is on city land, it’s on city land. Worth paying attention to if you live or recreate near that stretch of the river.

The FY 2027/2028 budget conversation (5-C) is listed as a discussion item, not a vote, but don’t let that fool you. Budget priority discussions like this one are where the real decisions get made, months before anything formal lands on the council floor. Every department in the city is affected. If you have a strong opinion about parks, roads, public safety staffing, or anything else the city funds, showing up to this one is more useful than showing up after the numbers are set.
