S. MLK CIA Board Meeting, August 20, 2026
The board skipped a month of meetings, and now it’s catching up on two sets of minutes plus a festival, insurance, and a real estate situation nobody’s explained yet.
This is a small authority board doing housekeeping alongside a couple of items that actually matter to the corridor. No big contracts on the table, but the agenda has enough moving parts to make showing up worthwhile.
🔦 The 3 items worth your attention
The Southwest Festival is coming to the MLK corridor on September 20, and the board will both get an update and take action on it Wednesday (Item 4). What “action” means isn’t spelled out in the agenda. Could be a vendor contract, a budget line, logistics sign-off, residents involved in corridor planning or neighborhood events should plan to be in the room.
Item 8 is the one with the least explanation: a discussion about La Mulata, a property or business on the corridor. The agenda says nothing else. If you have any connection to that address or that business, this meeting is worth attending just to find out what’s actually on the table.
The board is also moving money between its own bank accounts (Item 3). No amount is listed. No purpose is described. It’s a short agenda item that could mean very little, or it could mean the CIA is repositioning funds ahead of a project. The board will know; the agenda doesn’t say.
🏗️ Roads & property
- MLK corridor right-of-way improvements (Item 7): Staff will update the board on the Public Right-Of-Way Improvement Plan, the physical streetscape work planned along S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Status update only, no action listed.
💰 Where the money’s going
No contracts or grants are on this agenda.
📌 Also notable
- Board subscriptions up for review (Item 5-a): the board will look at what services it pays for annually and whether to keep them.
- Reimbursement procedure getting formalized (Item 5-b): members and staff will have a written process for expense reimbursement going forward.
- Insurance coverage on the agenda for a decision (Item 6): the CIA board is looking at obtaining or renewing liability coverage.
