Development Committee · 2026-09-01

DuPage County has never had local rules for commercial wind farms or solar installations. That changes if Tuesday’s one substantive vote goes through.

Only two items are on the agenda, and one is minutes approval. So this is essentially a single-item meeting, and it’s a genuinely significant one.

🔦 The 3 items worth your attention

With only one non-routine item on the docket, it gets the full spotlight.

Text Amendment T-2-26: Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage Zoning (6-A). For the first time, DuPage County would have its own local regulations covering commercial-scale wind energy facilities, commercial solar installations, and battery storage systems. Right now, the zoning ordinance simply doesn’t address them. The amendment also brings the county into compliance with Illinois Public Act 104-0458, the state law that’s pushing local governments to get these rules on the books. The Zoning Board of Appeals took a look and came back 6-0 in favor.

Note that Tuesday’s discussion isn’t a final decision, it’s a committee-level review, and any formal action would move through the full county process from there.
