The Fire Marshal’s Office is coming to this meeting with three new fees it wants to start charging, and the county is also asking to move where it stores explosive devices.

The 3 items worth your attention

The Fire Marshal’s Office wants a new technology fee on anyone pulling permits for plan review, fire prevention, or inspections, with the money going to fund the office’s software, hardware, and digital systems (Item 18). Separately, it’s also asking the board to create an Appeal Fee and an Expedite Fee for its Appeals Board, meaning applicants who want to challenge a Fire Marshal decision or jump the line will pay for the privilege (Item 19). Two new fees in one meeting isn’t unusual for a department updating its cost-recovery structure, but if you’re a contractor or property owner who regularly deals with the Fire Marshal’s Office, both items are worth following.

The county’s Police Department wants to relocate its explosive device storage facility to a county-owned site that meets current federal guidelines (Item 15). The current location apparently doesn’t clear the bar anymore, and the move needs board sign-off before it happens.

CobbLinc’s on-demand microtransit service is expanding. The Acworth/Kennesaw corridor is getting a new two-year contract with Via Mobility, LLC to run on-demand service there (Item 10), plus a new state Transit Trust Fund agreement to back it (Item 8). At the same time, the existing South Cobb microtransit agreement with Via Mobility is up for renewal and amendment (Items 9 and 11). That’s four separate agenda items to stand up what is effectively one expansion and one continuation of the county’s on-demand transit network.
